The privilege I wear gives me more opportunity, peace and ease in this life I walk. This is not taking away the tremendous hardships I have encountered throughout my life, yet understanding if my skin color were a different shade those hardships would have been met with different reactions and outcomes. For this I walk humbly.
Conversations with fellow privileged individuals seems to be more difficult than discussing politics or religion. These are conversations I have grown up never hearing, or only hearing one side at a time, separate of the others opinion. I have found myself many times over and over wishing I shared the pigment of my fellow brothers and sisters, so I too could be standing with them and giving more support.
Only recently have I had this deeper realization my words within my circle of friends sharing this privilege are potentially more potent than those of my fellow brothers and sisters wearing darker pigments, walking in a world of unrest, unease, and unjust hatred. All of this is taught to us as a society, to fear the unknown or different. Yet, the reality is we are the ones to be feared with our pumped up privilege, feeling as though we can ignore an injustice simply because it does not happen to us.
Yesterdays post is powerful and potent. We must continue to love ourselves, allowing us to love others from an even deeper unconditional space. As I work on this I will also have brave conversations, attempting to break down the walls that have been built around accepting our fellow human brothers and sisters as individuals, rather than a race to fear or not understand.
From a spiritual space, my heart is calling me to speak up, act as a loving, compassionate individual knowing the bigger truth and seeing I have an opportunity and responsibility right now. These events are happening for us to become aware. Our collective consciousness is creating this, yet it is also teaching us, are you willing to learn? Are you willing to go so deep within yourself and see the parts we do not want to speak of? Those parts that judge from a place we are not even sure why it is happening? This, my friends, is the place in which we ALL need to go and see, as this is the “COLLECTIVE” part of our minds and energy. We, as a collective, need to heal this, but first we must look, admit and reflect upon it.
Understand where it came from and perhaps what it has taught you. Then give thanks to every single bit of it, as today brings awareness and opportunity to heal. Please do not think that you are immune to this, no one is, as this is a collective. We have a part, so I call upon you to pray for yourself to see what your part is and how to bring that to the surface to be acknowledged and healed.
Thank you for being vulnerable, honest and brave as this is not an easy space to dig into. Our fellow brothers and sisters need us right now. XOXO
