“Hey, you! do this, no that way, rather go in another direction entirely, maybe that will bring solace. Actually, pick up that cape, cover your face and walk with a limp, this should do the trick. Hmmm, well we are not quite there yet, make a growling noise every time you step with your left foot and scrunch your upper lip, ever so slightly.

Ahhh, such a good little actor you are, now let’s change it up again. Toss the cape, stand tall with your chest jutted out, showing confidence and bravery. Now, walk towards that thing you have longed for and know it is yours before it is in your hands. Just as you’re reaching to fulfill your desire a moment of hesitation overcomes you and you fall back with fear that if you engage everything will change forever. You decide giving up this desire feels more important than allowing things to change, so you let it go… “

Actor, director, stagehand, costume designer, or an audience member, we all have played these roles. Today, I would like to be the formal play writer for the rest of my story. What role are you playing? What are you learning in this role? Is it time for a new place in life?
